Crops On-Farm Food Safety Program
From the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture

Aside from being a resource for on-farm food safety, the program provides a variety of free workshops pertaining to food safety on the farm. Topics include Irrigation Water, Post-Harvest Water, Hygiene and Hand Washing, Manures and Composts, Traceability, Multi-commodity Operations, and Risk Assessment. .

Workshops can be tailored for any group and can be scheduled upon request. Ontario has recently released a new voluntary food safety program for farmers called the Advantage Good Agricultural Practices Manual. The program is designed for any farm of any size, whether they are a conventional growing operation or are certified organic. It allows farms growing different crops or that also have livestock to follow one program and keep one set of records.

The manual is free to all Ontario growers. As another resource, we are available to attend annual general meetings or any other type of group meeting to discuss on-farm food safety, the available resources or answer any questions your group may have. For more information on these resources, please feel free to contact me for flyers on the Manual and the workshops or with any questions.
