Join Chantal and Dave at Dalew Farms for a very rewarding food experience. Feast on the bounty of summer with a wide array of fresh and delicious produce and meats. Enjoy farm tours with hayrides to see the animals, and other special events. Take pleasure in knowing that your families’ food was produced without chemicals or artificial fertilizers, by your own personal farmer, in a safe and environmentally friendly fashion. Receive the regular Dalew Farms newsletter with updates about the farm, as well as a special once a week email bulletin (The Dalew Farms Blurb) for CSA subscribers.

We are nearly organic, but not certified organic. We use absolutely no chemicals or artificial fertilizers, we don’t grow or feed any GMO’s (genetically modified organisms) and all of our animals are raised on pasture during the spring summer and fall.

Why aren’t we certified organic? Our farm has been free of chemicals and fertilizers for more than the 3 required years for transition to organic certification, but sometimes we use non organic seeds to get varieties that perform well and are disease resistant, allowing us to avoid using chemical fungicides. We use plastic row covers to get vegetables ready earlier in the season, but don't use the biodegradable kind, because we don’t want to leave any unnatural residues in the soil. We will attempt to either re-use the non biodegradable plastic, or recycle it. We also feel that the “certified organic” sector is becoming more industrialized and is more about marketing for large corporations, than it is about an environmentally friendly local food system and thus, we are opting out of the certified organic empire building process!

DALEW FARMS CSA 2008 Subscription Details:
Cost: $600.00 per season Delivery will start the first Wednesday in July, and end the last Wednesday in October, except for one final week in November, which will be a delivery of some storage items like carrots, potatoes, cabbage, onions etc. Produce will be delivered to the Sudbury Farmers market on Wednesday evenings. Notification is sent by email on Monday evenings of the vegetables that will make up the box for that week, and subscribers have until Tuesday evening to place orders for additional Dalew Farms items.

In addition to the vegetables offered in the CSA subscription, Dalew Farms also has meats available. Chicken, pork, beef, and lamb, all processed at licensed facilities. (For more information about these products please read below.) When available, these products can be purchased and delivered at the same Wednesday evening time as your CSA delivery at no extra delivery cost, or through the Eat Local Sudbury Buying Club. Also, we have additional locally produced items (e.g.: Fresh ground flour) at our farm store available for delivery at the same time as our vegetable subscriptions.

We also have monthly open houses during the summer at the farm to see the garden, animals etc, and of course you are more than welcome to come out for those. We were able fill the 50 subscriptions that we set as our goal for 2008. A $100.00 deposit reserved the subscription and the subscriptions were taken on a first come, first serve basis. You can add your name to our 2009 waiting list by calling or emailing us.

Our Vegetable List for 2008 will include: · Beans, green and yellow · Broccoli · Brussels sprouts · Cabbage, red, green, savoy · Carrots · Cauliflower · Cucumbers, slicing and pickling · Kale · Lettuce (and other salad greens) · Onions, green and cooking · Peas · Potatoes red and white · Pumpkins · Red beets · Spaghetti Squash · Sweet corn · Sweet potatoes · Swiss chard · Tomatillos · Tomatoes · Zucchini, green and yellow · And More!

We are always adding new vegetables to the garden here at Dalew Farms so there was an extra surprise or two of new items to test your taste buds throughout last season. We enjoyed connecting with our subscribers over the course of the summer, and learning more about what we can do to even further improve the taste and nutrition of our produce. Please don’t hesitate to call or email us if you have any further questions!
