  • Edencrest Farms
    Jim & Maureen Giffen
2904 Rainbow Valley Rd West. Minesing
    , Ontario (705) 737-2491

Description: We are approaching our 9th season now as a CSA farm.  We have been certified for 7 years meaning no form of pesticides, chemicals, fertilizers are applied to our gardens or vegetables.  Our livestock are treated in a very humane way with adequate housing inside the barn during the cold wintery months, no housing in cages whatsoever, and then allowed free access to pasture from late April through November.  No antibiotics, steroids, or growth stimulants are allowed on the farm.  Strictly non GMO seeds are planted as we can only grow vegetables from a certified organic seed source.
Again we are accepting 200 families to our CSA program.  This year our pickup days at the farm are on Wednesdays from 10am until 8pm and Fridays from 10am until 8pm.
We also offer our vegetables as a delivered basket.  We deliver to 4 locations in Barrie for the summer and one location in Stayner and one also in Wasaga Beach.  On Wednesday afternoon by 2pm we deliver to the north end of Barrie on Georgian Drive.  On Thursdays we deliver to the centre of Barrie at 2pm on Codrington St. and also deliver to the South east end of Barrie at Windsor Crescent and the South west end of Barrie on Mapleview Drive. Both times for delivery would be expected at 3pm.
On Fridays we also make deliveries to Stayner at 10:15 am and to Wasaga Beach by 10:30 am.
The summer CSA begins the first week of June and goes for 16 weeks finishing the third week of September.  Our CSA (Community Shared Agriculture) does just that.  The consumer and farmer both share in the feast and famine of the vegetable growing season.   Cooler summers will threaten more of the tomato and pepper plants but the cooler tolerant radishes, peas, and salads will do exceptionally well.  On those hot summers, the sweet corn, beans, potatoes, will grow amazingly well but the cooler salad mixes and peas will not do as well.  Our vegetable share is designed for a family of 2 adults and 2 young children.   For families who are strictly vegetarians, they may wish to purchase 2 shares.
A share purchased for pickup at the farm will cost $110 per month.  For delivered veggie baskets we charge an extra $10 per month meaning the total cost delivered will be $120 each month.  Families must be committed to the whole summer season by paying the farmer 4 post dated cheques dated the first of June, July, August, and September.  By doing this the farmer can budget for the summer as he will know how much seed to plant and how much extra help is needed for the summer.

Produce: We provide various vegetables throughout the entire growing season including: beans, Bok Choy, Carrots, Asian Greens, Swiss Chard, Corn, Cucumbers, Onions, Peppers, Fennel, Rhubarb, Asparagus, Squash, Zucchini, Pumpkins, Beets, Cabbage, Herbs, Lettuce, Kholrobi, Garlic, Eggplant, Peas, Potatoes, Radishes, Spinach, Turnip, and others.  The cooler tolerant vegetables will be available for the CSA in early June, and as the days grow longer and hotter, the warmer weather vegetables will be available. Approximately 8 to 12 vegetables will be available to our CSA members every week.   In our little store we have also our organic chicken and eggs for sale at all times and angus beef is available for sale too.

    1751 Rosemount Road, Waubaushene, Ontario (705) 538-9929

Description: Organic. Sustainable. Grown with Passion. We are excited to bring our passion for growing nutritious, honest food to the residents of Simcoe County. Our focus is on our sustainable gardening practices and our organic growing methods.

No pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used on any of our produce (or any of our land for that matter). We buy certified organic seed whenever available. We maintain a sustainable growing cycle by making use of all the by-products of our farm (goat, chicken and duck manure as well as organic matter compost make great garden bed soil). We create raised garden beds wherever possible, so the soil can warm faster in the early spring - allowing us to start our growing season a bit earlier than a conventionally grown garden.

We value locally grown food, and want to share that food with our members. There is nothing better than the crunch of a freshly picked snow pea or cob of sweet corn.

We offer workshops on cheesemaking, rearing backyard chickens, shiitake mushrooms. We also offer hands-on experiences - Garlic planting, shiitake log inoculating and harvest parties to name a few.

  • Cooper Road CSA
    Eileen Fawcett
    28 Riverdale Ave, Toronto, Ontario (416) 463-5462

A number of years ago I became increasingly interested in growing heirloom and unusual vegetables at my farmhouse east of Toronto. I began Cooper Road CSA as a way of sharing the bounty the garden was producing.

I have always believed that healthy food comes from healthy soil. My produce is grown organically with no chemical inputs. The soil is enriched with compost and manure from certified organic beef cattle. I tend the garden by hand and practise crop rotation. The seeds I plant are from open pollinated varieties I have grown or certified organic seed I have sourced.

Every delivery is customized; members order from a weekly email list. the CSA is based in the Riverdale area of Toronto and delivery is to each member's doorstep, generally Sunday evenings. The season runs from the third week of May until the end of October. There is a nominal seasonal membership fee.

I offer greens throughout the season. Salad greens include 20 kinds of lettuce, arugula and spinach. Sauteing greens include three kinds of kale, red mustard, sorrel and four varieties of chard. I grow specialty potatoes including fingerlings and blue, five kinds of radishes, various summer squashes, sugar snap and snow peas, pea shoots and tendrils, fresh garlic and garlic scapes and multi coloured heirloom carrots and beets. To supplement my produce I partner with neighbouring farmhers to provide eggs, asparagus, strawberries, winter squash, onions, 5 year cheddar and grass finished beef.

  • The Farm
    Erin Stephenson
    RR#6, Guelph, Ontario (519) 994- FARM (3276)

Our family was privileged to grow up with a large garden in a rural setting, and the benefits we reaped were not only the extensive variety of ultra fresh and healthy vegetables we produced, but also the pride we took in producing them. It was not until we grew up and left the family homestead that we realized not everyone has benefited from the same experience. Produce at the grocery store was lackluster; flavourless and often shipped in from thousands of kilometers away, left to ripen on the truck while being transported to the store. While grocery stores are undoubtedly convenient, all that convenience comes at a premium to both your health and your wallet!
We wanted to share the same benefits we experienced with other local families in our area. This is where The Farm began. Our story is one of providing the local community with fresh, sustainable, affordable, and organic, pesticide free vegetables delivered to your door.
With The Farm you will get the true garden experience throughout the 3 seasons of the farm without all of the hard work or having to give up on convenience. In the spring you will experience the first tender greens; the summer brings with it beautiful perfectly ripe vegetables, followed by the bounty of the harvest in autumn. Amounts and varieties of vegetables available will vary as the season advances, just as it would in your own garden. We will be delivering baskets of vegetables aproximately 20 weeks starting the first week of June. Vegetables included in are baskets are: carrots, potatoes, green and yellow beans, corn, romaine lettuce, boston lettuce, beets, onions, radishes, tomatoes, green peppers, hot peppers, egg plant, cucumbers, squash, and much more. Call or email to sign up for a membership or for more details.
