Farms
Melisa McCosker
1751 Rosemount Road, Waubaushene, Ontario
(705) 538-9929
Description: Organic. Sustainable.
Grown with Passion. We are excited to
bring our passion for growing nutritious,
honest food to the residents of Simcoe
County. Our focus is on our sustainable
gardening practices and our organic growing
methods.
No
pesticides or chemical fertilizers are
used on any of our produce (or any of
our land for that matter). We buy certified
organic seed whenever available. We maintain
a sustainable growing cycle by making
use of all the by-products of our farm
(goat, chicken and duck manure as well
as organic matter compost make great garden
bed soil). We create raised garden beds
wherever possible, so the soil can warm
faster in the early spring - allowing
us to start our growing season a bit earlier
than a conventionally grown garden.
We value locally grown food, and want
to share that food with our members. There
is nothing better than the crunch of a
freshly picked snow pea or cob of sweet
corn.
We offer workshops on cheesemaking, rearing
backyard chickens, shiitake mushrooms.
We also offer hands-on experiences - Garlic
planting, shiitake log inoculating and
harvest parties to name a few.
Contact Melissa or Nathan for more details!

Description: A number of years ago
I became increasingly interested in growing
heirloom and unusual vegetables at my
farmhouse east of Toronto. I began Cooper
Road CSA as a way of sharing the bounty
the garden was producing.
I have
always believed that healthy food comes
from healthy soil. My produce is grown
organically with no chemical inputs. The
soil is enriched with compost and manure
from certified organic beef cattle. I
tend the garden by hand and practise crop
rotation. The seeds I plant are from open
pollinated varieties I have grown or certified
organic seed I have sourced.
Every delivery is customized; members
order from a weekly email list. the CSA
is based in the Riverdale area of Toronto
and delivery is to each member's doorstep,
generally Sunday evenings. The season
runs from the third week of May until
the end of October. There is a nominal
seasonal membership fee.
I offer greens throughout the season.
Salad greens include 20 kinds of lettuce,
arugula and spinach. Sauteing greens include
three kinds of kale, red mustard, sorrel
and four varieties of chard. I grow specialty
potatoes including fingerlings and blue,
five kinds of radishes, various summer
squashes, sugar snap and snow peas, pea
shoots and tendrils, fresh garlic and
garlic scapes and multi coloured heirloom
carrots and beets. To supplement my produce
I partner with neighbouring farmhers to
provide eggs, asparagus, strawberries,
winter squash, onions, 5 year cheddar
and grass finished beef.

Garden & Seed Co.
Hanna Jacobs
2 Glenavon Rd. Toronto, Ontario (416)
553-7126
Description:
Matchbox Garden is a small market garden
farm evolved from a backyard garden in
downtown Toronto. Over the past three
years we have grown our produce on a three
acre plot at the Mcvean Farm in Brampton
and this year we are moving operations
to The Kortright Center in Vaughan. At
our new farm we will expand to 4 acres
of annual production and have the opportunity
to work with the Toronto Region Conservation
Authority in developing a farm that will
operate both as a viable business venture
and a demonstration site.
Various
groups from young to old will have the
chance to visit and learn about sustainable
food production, seed saving practices,
biodiversity on the farm and so much more.
At Matchbox, our goal is to produce as
much food for the community through the
thoughtful observance of nature and deliberate
application of design. We see the importance
of every plant, animal and insect, as
each plays an important role in maintaining
a balanced and healthy ecosystem on the
farm. The long term vision for Matchbox
at Kortright includes 1 acre perennial
herb and vegetable garden, 2 acre food
forest, mushroom production and year round
food production. We expect to start our
first winter CSA in 2011.

We are an organic, horse-powered vegetable
farm located in Salem, Ontario. Working

grow more than 65 crops, with 150 different
varieties of vegetables, herbs and cut-flowers.
Plowshare Farm is dedicated to building
a resilient local food system that values
the land, the animals and the people who
work on the farm. We are looking to connect
with, and to help build, a healthy community
of local eaters who share these values
with us.
At Plowshare Farm, we distribute our produce

approach to food and farming, where farmers
and eaters work together for mutual benefit.

The Bend Farm
Brian & Sue Feddema
16225 Jane St, Kettleby, Ontario (905)
727-0023
Description:
Round The
Bend Farm is a working family farm that
has been growing vegetables since 1986.
Our farm is located on the Oak Ridges
Morraine and is part of the Greenbelt.
Brian and Sue Feddema and family own and
operate the farm producing and providing
healthy, locally grown fruits and vegetables
in a way that protects and preserves the
environment. We grow our vegetables naturally,
using a minimal spray program and organic
methods as much as possible. Our honey
bees pollinate the crops and our ponds
irrigate when necessary.
To combat weeds we hand hoe our fields
on a regualr basis. In the Spring we naturally
fertilize our fields with the turkey manure
produced from our turkey barns and we
practice crop rotation, so every year
the crops are in a differnt part of the
farm-this helps maintain healthy fields.
In addition to fields we also have a 10,000
square foot greenhouse where plants are
started, tomatoes and other vegetables
are grown in order to extend our season
for your benefit.
As turkey farmers we offer to you our
naturally raised turkeys fed with a mix
of corn, soybeans and grain, using no
growth hormones or medicated feeed. Whole
birds are available fresh for Thanksgiving
and Christmas ranging from 13-30+lbs and
are ground made into sausages, kolbasas,
pepperetesses, turkey brests and thighs-frozen
for all year round use. We are excited
to offer our produce and turkey products
in a new way to people who care about
freshness and where their food comes from.
Visit our website to find out more about
us and feel free to call as well.
